4 Somatic Tools to Transform Relationships

4 Somatic Tools to Transform Relationships

I’ve been in somatic therapy for almost 4 years. My first 6 months in somatic therapy did more for me than my 7 years in talk therapy.

At the beginning of somatic therapy, I learned 4 somatic tools: grounding, orientating, titration, and pendulation. We’d practiced these tools in each session as we digested past memories and emotions.

My everyday life transformed almost overnight when I started using these tools outside of sessions.

I felt safe in my everyday life for the first time in my life. My capacity to hold and navigate difficult emotions or experiences expanded immensely. I was more present to my experience, what I needed, and was able to meet that.

But I didn’t see that transformation in my relationships. I saw my own patterns continue to play out.

That’s when I realized that I needed to find a way to bring these tools into my relationships.

In this episode, we’ll explore 4 somatic tools: grounding, orienting, titration, and pendulation. I share what each tool is and what it looks like to apply these tools in different relational moments.

At the end, I’ll guide you through a practice that combines these tools. This practice is a nice little “warm up” before you bring these tools in your relationships.

If you’ve been challenged in bringing your somatic practice into your relationships, then this episode is for you!
